Watch This Space 7

Please note: this project is just commencing. Images and further details will be added soon

Dates: October - December 2010

The Biennial is excited to be working in partnership with Lighthouse on Watch This Space 7 with Varndean School in Brighton.

Lighthouse and BPB are keen to invest in sustainable relationships with schools, and to this end are seeking to develop a model for a way of working that identifies clear and ongoing opportunities for the partners to support delivery of the course that are transferable to other schools.

Part of this is about working with teachers to clarify the value and potential of the relationship in terms of delivery against curriculum requirements, and school development priorities.

Watch this Space 7, managed by engage, is a funded professional development programme for galleries, teachers and gallery educators. It enables participants to gain first hand experience of each other's work, in order to initiate, build and sustain partnerships.

Watch this Space places teachers from non-visiting schools in galleries and early career gallery educators and artists in schools.

Watch this Space 7 has a focus on: the new Key Stage 3 curriculum; the Creative and Media diplomas and work-related learning; cross-curricular working and citizenship; craft and design; working with Initial Teacher Trainees.

Between September 2010 and January 2011 twelve art galleries from across England are hosting 17 teachers who do not currently visit and six initial teacher trainees, introducing them and their students to approaches to working with contemporary art in the gallery and in school.

The projects they devise together will focus on the delivery of the new Key Stage 3 curriculum with an emphasis on cross curricular working and creative learning, and working with primary schools across the curriculum through engagement with contemporary art.
